ABOUT FOOTHILLS
Foothills Undergraduate Visual and Textual Magazine was first published in 1946. In the over 70 years since the conception of Foothills, the magazine has taken on wide variety of forms. Despite the aesthetic variations of the magazine, it has consistently published high quality creative work by undergraduate students. The 2025-26 Foothills team is excited to continue this legacy.
As a publication we are interested in the in-between; that of, relating to, or being in transition. The state of standing on a doorstep, writing around the doorbell. We look to read writing that pokes its fingers through the seams of gender and race, geographic position, the blank space between the frames on a roll of film. Send us art that gets lost in the foothills on the way to the mountains.
Foothills is a literary and arts magazine based at the University of Denver, nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Foothills publishes creative writing and visual art by undergraduate students. We seek to showcase daring and courageous creative work and to promote conversation and collaboration between young artists.

We are very excited to read the work you submit! Please note the guidelines below to ensure you qualify for submission prior to sending your work in.
- You must be an undergraduate student at the University of Denver.
- You must submit work that is previously unpublished.
SUBMISSION GUIDLINES
In the submission subject line of the email, please first write the subject you will be submitting (poetry, prose, visual) followed by your last name.
For Poetry submissions - Please keep poems to 30 lines or less, please submit not more than 3 poems per submission round. If uploading more than one poem please put it all in one PDF document attachment.
For Prose submissions - Please keep prose to 2,000 words or less, no more than 2 pieces per submission round. If uploading more than one piece please put it all in one PDF document attachment.
For Visual Submissions - We accept 2-D, 3-D, and digital art submissions. When submitting, please ensure that photos of work are taken well with quality lighting and cropped appropriately.
